| I'm wanting to start a non-profit to receive donations of cash as well as product and services to be used as awards and support recognize and retain outstanding educators in the public school system. Currently there is no merit system of reward and teaches are leaving for better pay, or even just financial survival. We will solicit from businesses, non-profits, and service organizations, as well as private individuals, donations that will then be used to recognize outstanding educational practice promoting student achievement. I'm trying to figure out whether we should file for a corporation or llc. We will be located in and function in the state of California and initially in the county of San Mateo. |

A federal tax id number if you are a partnership or you want to use it instead of you social security number to open a bank account. Also, note that forming an llc or incorporating eliminates the requirement of getting a dba. It is a good idea to form an llc to avoid personal liability from business transactions. |
